From what I have read its basically PS3 and Xbox are coming out with motion tracking like the wii, but with cameras, and apparently both are inferior to the Wii controller setup.
I find both to be stupid for the same reason I find my wii useless, if I want to play video games I want to sit and veg out. If I want to play sports I will go outside.

Yeah... I'm just imagining where I'm going to have to set up future consoles. Gonna need a fucking half-court in your living room just to play Tetris lol.

Well, I think one of them snatched up that hacker who did the camera to wii motion setup. The homebrew community said it was leaps and bounds ahead of what Nintendo managed to do with the original wii remote.
Plus screw Wii, they stole our Emmy.

Oh really? I'll have to find the review I read, but it said that while the setups are good the Wii still has far greater motion detection with that new mushoom tip they unveiled last year or whatever.

So are you saying the mushroom tip is way more sensitive?

I see what you've done here and I don't like it. Stay away from my mushroom tip,
Ok, now this is just cool...

Jesus. I don't know if I'm more impressed or scared that my game will be able to understand what I am doing like that.

I'm going to go with "creepy". I really don't need a virtual boy sitting on my tv watching what I do while I'm on the couch. Although, much like anything, the porn industry would take this and run with it so fast and so far it'd make your head spin.. If MS would license them, which I doubt they'd do.
Looking at the demo itself, I really don't understand the claims that the guy made about how everyone that saw the goggles demo felt the need to bend down and pick it up. Maybe they did because that's the way the simulation goes, and they know they have to to keep going, but an intrinsic need to pick "the goggles" up because people believe they're physically there (which is the implication I got from the video)? I doubt it.
The drawing on a paper thing... I don't see how that's brand new. We've had fax machiens for years, and that's essentially what it is; a fax machine between the real world and Milo. You could take the analogy (stretched quite a bit, admittedly) as far as Scottie and the transporter, moving the paper from one place to another.
Don't get me wrong. The demo is pretty cool from a technical standpoint. It's just going to take a lot longer for it to become the norm and the way things are done than Microsoft probably hopes (If it does at all). It seems a lot like the Microsoft Surface demo... A really cool demo, not cool for the real world (especially with the price tags on Surface). That, and Max Headroom tv show kind of freaked me out when I was a kid, and this seems way too much like it.

It's not that the people feel they're there. It's that, psychologically, because of the way Milo interacts with you, they feel that Milo is real. It's not a conscious thought. It's the way the brain reacts with other people. Because Milo acts so fully like another real human being, when he tosses the goggles to the person interacting with him, they instinctively feel the need to catch them.
It's psychology.
I suppose, recognizing it for what it is makes it a bit more frightening of a concept.
On the other hand, MS could license an in home psychologist program with this. That might be worth investigating for them.
In case you've been under a rock for the last 5 years the casual/family gaming market seems to be the only thing any company cares about anymore. Yes there are still some good titles and companies creating them but all in all its about flaunting the technology to the housewives and mentally retarded. While the possibilities of this can be endless (hello you in your own little horror story via RE or Silent Hill) the implications for us "manly" gamers are next to nil. There wont be anything realistically interesting that comes from this. Yes, a computer that has been taught how humans work is nifty in theory do we really need more people making judgments based solely on a mathematical equation? Isn't that what I hire an analyst or psych for? I guess if they make it cheaper then yes its worth it but really I just see this as the next gimmicky thing for your mom to do in between the dishes and the pool boy.

Yeah, I see that. Maybe recognizing it also makes it seem a little less 'real', at least in a living room setting. Blocking out the living room with a pair of (real) goggles would change the experience drastically, I imagine.
I'm somewhat jaded because watching the demo really said to me "This is a questionable AI trying to pass a Turing test with an actor." The first round of dialog she had with him (the "I'm a bit nervous" and "1000's of people" bit) really seemed forced, and the pause before he said "1000's of people?" nailed it home for me. It reminded me way too much of a freshman year Computer Science AI project I did. He was essentially reading back what she was saying as questions to elicit further response to build up his conversation tree.
I'm curious to see how he does with a person whose language he doesn't "speak", to see how much of the emotional recognition ability that was talked about is via vocal cues (Both words used in conversation, and stress/emphasis on the words in the sentence) vs body language cues (Both overt and subtle). Nothing I saw in the video really indicated he was responding to the tone of voice vs just the actual words that were spoken. He did a little jump at the end of her sentence about 1000's of people seeing it, but that could just as easily have been the words used, as opposed to her vocal inflections. A good test would be to see what he does if someone who loves being in front of people did the same sort of line; I'd bet that person's overall attitude about being seen in front of 1000's of people would not be the same as the concern shown from the person in the video, and contrasting the two reactions would give a better gauge about how he's reacting.
I just see this as the next gimmicky thing for your mom to do in between the dishes and the pool boy.
Ayup. The Wii was supposed to change life as we knew it, bring about world peace, and cause us all to go to OT3 and bask in the glory of Xenu. So far, none of that has happened (Though I do feel better about my thetans).
Tell us how you really feel.
Im really disappointed that these developers cater to the "video games make people obese etc. etc." crowd. Im still waiting for my total station where I can sit down and enjoy a nice adventure in Azeroth by simply thinking about it.

So according to that video, that family had their 360 on the entire day?

I dunno, I watched a lot of E3 and even the Nintendo fanboi's I know admit they brought little to the table. The general consensus is that M$ really caught a lot of people off guard in a good way.
As Warp initially said, if Natal is half as good as that demo, it still owns Wii motion plus, especially if you rate the overall experience.
My first instinct when I saw it was "ok, that is cool but surely it must be like 5 years out". There are major developers that have had the Natal kits for months and I think M$ expects to see some stuff by this time next year. And I think they are aiming to have it in the 100 dollar range. We'll see.

Think of the RL Trolling possibilities.
Roommate playing game, I run in front of him and steer his indy car into the wall. Champion status achieved.
